Set up

Set up My station

Set an optional callsign and Maidenhead grid in My station so station-aware tools can use useful local context without creating an account.

Open the live map to set My station

First, set a grid

  1. On the live map, open the My station control.
  2. Enter a Maidenhead grid. A six-character grid is useful for local display; dalMap uses its coarse four-character form when a location-scoped provider needs it.
  3. Optionally enter a callsign. It scopes features such as My reports; it is not authentication or ownership proof.

The grid enables nearby activity, path and pointing context, satellite look angles and passes, observed band views, regional conditions, and some alerts. A manually entered grid uses its approximate center and does not ask for device location.

Choose the map appearance

Open the appearance control beside the map zoom controls to choose Light, Dark, or Auto. Auto follows your device setting. One control sets both the interface and the map; there is no separate map-appearance control.

In light appearance the OpenStreetMap tiles appear as OpenStreetMap serves them. In dark appearance they are dimmed and desaturated so the layers drawn over them stay readable. No feature’s hue is changed in either appearance, so water and land keep the colors you would recognize on any OpenStreetMap map.

Find is not station setup

My station

A browser-local preference used for station-aware views. Clear it whenever you want to remove it from this browser.

Find on map

Temporary navigation to a callsign, an award reference, a locator, or a coordinate pair. It looks on the map first and only asks a lookup when nothing there answers. It does not change My station, filters, feeds, or saved preferences.

Browser location

Requested only after a location-dependent action. Precise coordinates and accuracy remain in the current page session.

Read a map result before acting

Every live layer has its own retention, scope, and caveats. Select a marker to read its supplied details, provider, and age, then use the map as context rather than confirmation. Sources & limits explains the evidence types and their material limits.

Share only public map state

Share map copies a link containing only public map state in the URL fragment. Learn which tools stay in your browser and what a shared link leaves out.
